Overview
The Genuine Bearing Buddy® replaces the standard dust cap on trailer hubs, using an internal spring-loaded piston to maintain constant pressure against the grease and prevent water ingress when submerged.
Supplied as a pair, Model 1781 suits a 1.781 inch (45.24mm) hub bore and is compatible with hubs running the NSK (A) bearing kit.

Features
- Spring-loaded internal piston — maintains approximately 3 PSI against the grease at all times, preventing water ingress when hub is submerged
- Eliminates bearing vacuum draw — stops cool water being drawn in through rear seals as hot hubs cool after launching
- Chrome plated finish — corrosion resistant in saltwater and freshwater environments
- Visual grease level indicator — piston position shows at a glance whether hub needs regreasing without removing the cap
- Eliminates bearing repacking — when properly maintained, extends bearing service life significantly
- Supplied as a pair — both hubs covered
Fitment / Notes
- Suits hubs fitted with NSK (A) bearing kit — LMA1SPK or LMA1SMPK
- Compatible hubs: Ford (HF5, 422300F5, 428300F5), Holden HT (HT5, 422300T5, 428300T5), Holden HQ (HQ5, 422300Q5, 428300Q5), Holden Commodore (HCD5, 422300CD5, 428300CD5), Landcruiser LC6 standard (HT6, 422300T6, 428300T6)
- Outer bearing cone: LM11949
- Outer bearing cup: LM11910
- Hub bore: 1.781" (45.24mm)
- Note: Does not suit parallel electric hubs running PB bearing kit (LMPSPK), or 12" LC6 hubs
Installation
- Before fitting, remove hubs and inspect bearings — replace if damaged, rusted, or pitted.
- Clean all old grease from hubs and check inner seals are in good condition.
- Repack hubs completely with a high quality multipurpose No. 2 grade grease suited to automotive suspensions.
- Do not use heavy fibrous greases or mix grease types.
- To install, hold the Bearing Buddy against the hub bore with a small block of wood and drive into place with a hammer until seated.
- If it cannot be driven in or will not seat firmly, do not force it — hub bore may be slightly over or undersized.
- To remove, place a block of wood against the side of the Bearing Buddy and tap alternating sides to walk it out of the bore evenly. Do not disassemble to remove.
